Hue Me Happy Summer 2017

Hi there! Welcome to Hue Me Happy!

If you read my post yesterday, you’ll know that I have decided to change the focus of my blog. I set up this blog 5 years ago, originally as a sort of online baby book when my eldest was 10 months old. It was first called Little Star and Me as my daughter’s name means “star”. 18 months later, we had outgrown the name and were about to add a new daughter to the mix too. So, the blog evolved to The Mama Story. I’ve shared all manner of family stories and adventures on it (and it’s amazing to look back on). I originally thought it could be something like a motherhood narrative and include stories from others too. But, I soon realised that I wasn’t very comfortable sharing those “from the heart” posts or the “warts and all” gritty posts. Though there have actually been warts of course, along with all manner of childhood infections and infestations <sob>. I have just never wanted to write about them.

As an aside, I think the “honest parenting” blogs like Hurrah for Gin and The Unmumsy Mum etc are brilliant and play such an important role in reassuring us that parenting it isn’t all roses and homemade dinners and Boden outfits and happy children and fulfilled mothers!

I’ve realised that what I like writing about (and readers seem to like reading about) are the happier moments – adventures, holidays, days out, crafting, parties, dress-up ideas and celebrations. These are the things I have been focusing on for a while now anyway, so you’ll probably find not much will actually change initially. I struggled for ages to think of a suitable name and toyed with just using my own name. But, I quite like hiding behind another name. I focussed on the happiness angle and, of course, in 2017 all the obvious names don’t have available URLs. Hue Me Happy is a play on ‘colour me happy’ and means that my love of colour comes into play too.

So, welcome to Hue Me Happy, a celebration of things that make us happy!

PS – I’ve got a fair few tweaks to make to make everything across the blog and social media with the new name. I’d be more than happy to hear from you if you spot any errors! Thanks!

(PPS – a couple of you left comments yesterday – Jen & Emma – I saw them on email but they didn’t make it through to the post because of the switch over. Thank you for you kind words though and I hope you enjoy the new site!)

You did it! Well done, I love the name and the logo looks fab too. Looking forward to reading your adventures!
(Oh, I have noticed the Instagram footer isn’t working, I got the same problem when I changed. If you work out how to fix it, please let me know!)

Thanks Charlotte! I needed to change the username in the Instagram widget that feeds the footer bit. I just didn’t have time to change the social links before swimming lessons! Your template might work differently but I have taken a screen shot and will send to you.

Hi Sian, the name does evoke an expectation of happiness, which I think is wonderful. We should take a little time each day to notice the colour in our lives.
