Sisters | August 2015

12th August 2015

There are two main things going on at the moment. On the one hand they are very sweet with each other, Imogen gets so excited to see Seren and Seren gets excited about all the new stuff Imogen can do. On the other hand … the fighting has started! This is illustrated perfectly in the photos below. Seren is sharing Imogen’s buggy and Imogen is alternating between cuddling her and pushing her or pulling her hair.

In lots of ways, like not sharing, not taking turns and grabbing toys, Seren behaves worse with Imogen than other children. I can see how it frustrates Seren when she has spent time setting up a scene with her dolls etc and Imogen bowls over and picks up the toys or knocks them down. Poor Imogen though has spent most of her life having toys grabbed off of her and being told what she can and can’t play with. Until last week, when we had our first hint of sibling spats to come. Seren grabbed a box from Imogen and held it above her head, Imogen seized the opportunity to push Seren right over! I laughed a little. Of course, Seren was indignant that this was the worst behaviour ever and Imogen should be punished. I keep trying to explain that she needs to treat her how she would like to be treated but I fear this is a lesson lost on a 4 year old.

Children learn so much about negotiating and things being fair from having a sibling, don’t they? But it’s such a tough lesson to learn at first. And that flip between wanting to be together and suddenly wanting to be apart happens in the space of seconds. But it sounds like your cute girls are finding their way. Thanks for linking up with Siblings. x

Ah, it is hard to explain that to a 4 year old! I love how the sibling bond keeps them bouncing back quickly from squabbles and differences, though, things are always forgiven.

It always amazes me how quickly the fight is over! My lot can be at each others throats one minute, and the next you would think nothing had happened. That easy relationship seems to really only happens with siblings. Sharing has to be one of the hardest things for them to learn though 🙂
