Luxury homeware website Amara have a fine selection of Father’s Day gift ideas (it’s coming up soon on the 18th June this year!). They sent us (well, Andy) a box of gifts to try out over the weekend. So, yesterday was a sort of early Father’s Day . We even finished the afternoon making a cake for daddy at Imogen’s insistence (she thinks all occasion days are birthdays!).

BBQ – Grill & Burger Sticks

Andy fired up the BBQ for lunch, as the weather forecast said heavy rain by teatime. As an aside, did you get the heavy, heavy rain we got here in north London? The crazy toddler was outside licking the water from the puddles on the patio. In keeping with my last post about how it’s healthy to let them eat dirt. Hmmmm.

Burgers and Portobello mushrooms were grilled on an Emile Henry ceramic burger grill. Alas, this is no longer in stock on the website. The Emile Henry Fish Grill is still available however and would be great for cooking fish or other delicate foods on the BBQ. The burger grill was easy to use and it conducted and retained a lot of heat, even after the coals were dying down. It was super easy to clean too which is always a winner.

We finished our burgers off with the stainless steel Emile Henry Burger Sticks too. Fortunately, we had two packs of these as the girls fought over the stars! Seren insisted I had the “coffee cup” though I think it’s actually a beer cup (equally relevant!).

Garden Games – Croquet Set

The weather held off so we could play games after lunch. We played croquet using the beautiful brightly coloured, wooden Sunnylife Havanna Croquet Set.

The girls were able to use the adult sized sticks with some supervision and I think the quality is such that we will be able to bring this out for years to come.

Drinks – Bottle Opener and Homemade Gin Set

We had earned a drink after our croquet exertions! Andy cracked opened the beers using the Amara swordfish bottle opener. He also received the Homemade Gin Set which he loved this! It is beautiful.

We need to get some vodka to make the gin then we will give this a go in time for the real Father’s Day.
