End of the Nursery Year (and more Chicken Pox)

25th July 2016

Last week was a really weird week. We’d just got back from our lovely holiday, Imogen succumbed to the Chicken Pox bang on 14 days after Seren got it, Andy was off work, we had a couple of days when it was really too hot and it was the last week of Seren’s nursery life. When she walks back through the school gates in September, she’ll be ‘properly’ at school in Reception year and straight into a week of mornings and staying for lunch.

She’s very ready for it but I was a bit emotional during lots of ‘lasts’ last week. On Monday we had our last toddler group party. The toddler group is really for Imogen these days (who missed the party due to her pox) but Seren has been going there for 3 years so it’s been a huge part of her routine.

On Wednesday it was so hot that we got ice lollies on the walk home from school and sat under a tree. She asked to stay there until it was dark as she didn’t like the sun.

On Thursday she had her last Tumble Tots session and I admit to having a few tears when the parents joined in at the end of the session. The children did the ‘I’m a Dingly, Dangly Scarecrow’ song and as they laid on the floor for the sleeping bit I wondered if it would be the last time she would do that. She certainly won’t join in with ‘Row, Row’ or ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ these days as those songs are for babies apparently.

Then she had her last afternoon session at the nursery and we joined in as the school waved goodbye to the Year 6 children who were leaving for secondary school (now that was emotional for the parents!).

Imogen mainly spent the week covered in Poxclin Mousse watching Team Umi Zoomi (she is obsessed with the Math Dragon episode) to distract from her pox. She’s much better now though and we’re all done with the pox.

That’s lucky the pox is gone for the rest of the hols. Lovely photo of Seren at the top. I forget how so many schools don’t start the children full time straight away. Hope the run up to school goes well.
