Bluebells in Hertfordshire – Gobions Wood, Brookmans Park
Looking to find spring bluebells in Hertfordshire? We visited Gobions Wood in Brookmans Park yesterday to see the bluebells. The girls and I visited there last April and were eager to return this year (and take daddy this time).
We struggled a bit to find them without grandad’s expert help. Fortunately, the dog walkers who frequent the woods were very helpful in pointing us in the right way.
There are patches of bluebells all around but when you come to the main place where they are growing, there’s a beautiful blue carpet of flowers, it really is quite spectacular!
We found plenty of logs to balance on, sticks and pine cones to pick up, fungi (over 500 species!) to spot along the way too. As well as these carved wooden chairs where you can take a break. The girls sat in them with their fairy books that they had insisted on bringing.
Seren had her “Flower Fairies” book and Imogen rummaged around to find a ballet book that she knew had a bluebell mention in. In addition, she brought along a Rainbow Fairy book for the blue fairy. Towards the end of our adventure we sat on a bench and read through the flower fairy poems of the flowers we had seen, including the The Bluebell Fairy,
My hundred thousand bells of blue,
The splendour of the Spring,
They carpet all the woods anew
With royalty of sapphire hue;
I even managed to get in front of the camera which is a rare thing!
I’m impressed with Imogen’s recognition of flowers and trees. She was thrilled when we got home and she realised we had a few bluebells in the garden. Nothing like the amount in the woods though!

A blue blanket of beauty. So many lovely pictures shared here, and yay for mama being in the pictures (it is a rarity for me too!). I love the little tree stump chair nooks.

Oh these are gorgeous pics. There are definitely some contenders for a frame among them. I love seeing all these bluebell photos. There are none anywhere near us, so I’m waiting for the rape fields to turn yellow 🙂

Oh wow! It looks like a brilliant wood for exploring, and such beautiful pictures among the bluebells. #LivingArrows
It is so pretty.
I’ve enjoyed seeing bluebell photos for several springs and yours are wonderful. Your girls add so much to the adventure. Fairy books in the tree chairs sounds wonderful. I would have loved to experience this as a child with my mother.
Hopefully the girls will have lovely memories!
Your girls make beautiful flower fairies with their lovely yellow cardies and surrounded by bluebells. Such a pretty wood for a walk and I love the carved seat. We have one here but it is becoming more and more covered in fern and moss as it is about 10 years old now.

Beautiful photos, and although it was a little hard for you to locate, it makes me more special not having to share it with a heap of other people as it is slightly secretive! #countrykidsfun
