I wanted to share a little New Year project that I put together with the kids. This combines two ideas I’ve seen in past years, the first being a time capsule and the second an ongoing memory jar for 2017.
First, we drew round each family member’s hand and cut that out. Then we decided on 5 wishes and wrote them onto the hands.
Seren (age 5) wishes for a trip to the seaside, the sea being warm enough to paddle in, visits to family and friends and to be a fairy.
Imogen (age 2.5) wishes for kittens! I don’t think this is going to happen. I added in some for her which mainly involve her saying goodbye to baby / toddler-hood (we’re both a bit sad about that!) and moving on from nappies, bottles, creeping in our bed at 2am, the buggy and starting at nursery.
Andy & I wished for similar things! Peace, quiet, love, a tidy house and a new bathroom and kitchen.
The second ‘time capsule’ part was that we measured the girls’ heights with a piece of string each and added them to the jar.
The girls enjoyed filling the jar with the hands, string and more glitter and sequins than completely necessary!
The idea is that we will add to the jar throughout the year with little notes, tickets from days out … that sort of thing.
Then at the end of the year in the lull between Christmas and New Year we can pull out the jar and look at how much the girls have grown, whether our wishes have come true and remember the fun times we’ve had in 2017!
I’m going to be back later this week with more on my goals for 2017 (peace, love and a new bathroom definitely feature).
I hope that 2017 is starting out well for you!
